Spring 2025 Learning Research Design: CS8803-LRD

In spring 2025 I am teaching my graduate seminar, Learning Research Design. This course is intended for students looking to refine their skills in designing and conducting human subjects qualitative or mixed methods research. You will conduct multiple hands-on research activities toward the goal of defining your independent research project. Course readings will explore a variety of methods used in human-centered research, which an emphasis on learning and cognition. Students will define a topic area of interest and will work with a cohort of students in that area to conduct a literature review and define key constructs. Final projects will be a defined and piloted study in their area, either individually or in pairs. The class is open to on-campus MS and PhD students. Interested undergraduates should schedule a meeting with me to determine fit.

- Observational methods
- Video data collection and analysis
- Defining and refining a conceptual framework
- Interviewing
- Writing a qualitative or mixed methods section
- Visualizing and presenting your analysis
